Eddie Shipstad trained at the Broadmoor World Arena under world renowned coaches Barbara Roles, Carlo and Christa Fassi, Rubin Huron, and Christy Krall for over 15 years. During that time he competed at the US Nationals five times. He also trained in Los Angeles, California under World and Olympic coaches Frank Carroll and Rubin Huron.
Eddie toured as a principal skater with Disney's World on Ice for two-and-a-half years that covered the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Japan.
Eddie was the Director of Skating for the University of Denver from 1999-2004. During that time he directed five ice shows that had as guest skaters two world champions (Kurt Browning and Todd Eldredge), three National champions, world professional champions, and US Open champions. The show was one of the largest amateur ice shows in the country. He also directed the largest youth US Figure Skating Regional Training Camp in the country that featured World and Olympic coaches Carol Heiss-Jenkins, John Nicks, Frank Carroll, and Robin Wagner. Eddie was the chairman for many collegiate competitions that included the US Intercollegiate National Championships.
What do you like best about coaching: Eddie enjoys coaching all levels of skaters from Basic Skills to International competitors. He enjoys seeing skaters reach his/her personal goals and seeing them get a positive experience out of their skating. One of Eddie's greatest achievements is being able to train a skater from the beginning levels through their senior tests and end of their competitive careers.
What do you want skaters to know about you:
Eddie comes from a long line of skating history. Eddie's grandfather started the first-ever traveling ice show the Shipstads and Johnson Ice Follies in 1936. Eddie's father managed the Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs for 15 years as well as managing the Blue Jay Ice Castle training facility in Lake Arrowhead, California.
Eddie is married to and team teaches with Kelly Shipstad. They have two children; their son Tyler is eleven years old and plays hockey for Hyland Hills Youth Hockey Organization and plays the guitar, and their daughter Katie is eight years old and is a figure skater at the Ice Centre at the Promenade in the Pre-Preliminary level.
