Biography

I began skating in Tacoma, Washington when I was 8-years old and Kathy Casey was the skating director. I enjoyed the practice, competition and the success that came with all the hard work. I was the Northwest Regional Champion and qualified for sectionals in Intermediate-Senior. I was a four-time Sectional and National competitor. I am a double gold medallist in figures and freestyle and I am happy to say never failed a test! I also attained my Pre-Silver dances and Intermediate pair test(s). I owe a lot to the coaches, friends, and family who helped me achieve my goals. The LWC is a great club and I am so thankful to have had their support through all my years training. My move to Colorado was a choice made strictly to challenge myself competitively and emotionally. I have had a very successful experience coaching for 11-years training National, International, and Junior National competitors. I have also taken skaters from basic skills through gold level MITF, FS and Freestyle 10 tests; what a huge accomplishment for those athletes. I look forward to the future in our sport and helping all skaters achieve their goals. I am thankful to Cindy Sullivan for giving me the opportunity here; RMFSC is a wonderful club with truly wonderful athletes, parents and coaches.

What I Like About Coaching

I absolutely love working with skaters who have an obvious desire to be the best they can be. I know that with hard work and determination anything is possible. I have had the opportunity to take skaters from the ground level all the way to Nationals! I believe my energy, enthusiasm, technical and artistic ability really make a difference in each skater's individual talents. I truly enjoy everything about skating, developing an athlete in all way; on and off the ice. I am looking towards the future in skating and am really excited about the changes this sport is making. I will continue to inspire and motivate every skater during this transition and teach them the value of hard work, discipline and the "desire to be the best they can be."

Something About Myself

Interestingly enough, there isn't much I don't wear on my sleeve - but if you must know! Initially I wanted to be a hockey skater, but my mom thought I would look better in a pretty skating dress so I tried figure skating (Yuck, that's for girls - oh yeah, I'm a girl). Thank goodness, I took to it faster than fast and loved every minute of it. I did however beat all the boy hockey skaters in races around the rink during public sessions. Then, between 1991-1994 I performed in between periods at the Tacoma Rockets hockey games in the Tacoma Dome, I guess that was all I needed to fulfill my hockey dreams. I was also the Regional Champion in a Triathlon which consisted of running, biking, and as many push-ups as you could do in 2-minutes (I did 103)! They sent me to the state competition in California where I took 3rd. Lastly, I have great uncle (relative on my dad's side) who figure skated and his name is Jimmy Grogan. He competed with Dick Button and worked in Blue Jay California for some time. Who knows, maybe he has something to do with my absolute love and commitment to figure skating and why I believe I am doing what I was born to do!
