Kelly Milligan-Shipstad trained at the Hyland Hills Ice Arena in Westminster, Colorado. She was a double gold medalist in figures and freestyle as well as being a Sectional competitor. Kelly was a National Judge for US Figure Skating and judged two US Junior National competitions, two US Sectional championships, two North American Challenge Skate internationals, trial judged two US National Championships, and trial judged the Skate America International competition. During her time as a US Figure Skating official she was a team leader for the US contingent at a North American Challenge Skate. Kelly was also trained in the new ISU Code of Points judging system in 2004.
What do you like best about coaching: Kelly enjoys teaching all levels from Basic Skills to Senior level competitors. After eight years of judging for US Figure Skating, Kelly is excited to be back working with skaters on a daily basis. She loves playing a part in making a skater excited about what they are doing and reaching their own personal goals.
What do you want skaters to know about you: Kelly toured with the Ice Capades for two years and with Disney's World on Ice for two years. During this time she was in numerous chorus numbers, step-outs, and understudy positions. Her favorite memory of the show was performing as an aerial flyer with the Ice Capades. Her travels included the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Japan. Kelly is married to and team teaches with Eddie Shipstad and they have two children, Tyler and Katie.
